Carved in Green Tuff and Volcanic Lapilli
The wine cellar of Trattoria "Il Focolare" is not merely a storage room: it is a living monument to the rural architecture of Ischia Island. Carved directly into the heart of volcanic rock, between layers of lapilli and marine clay, it naturally guarantees the ideal temperature and humidity conditions for wine maturation.
Here, for four generations, the d'Ambra family has preserved the heritage of island winemakers. Stepping across the threshold of this subterranean space means taking a step back in time, retracing the history of Ischia's heroic agriculture and viticulture.
Natural Microclimate
The porous nature of the green tuff and the depth of the tunnels maintain a constant temperature throughout the year, creating a perfect sanctuary for aging our bottles and reserves.
The Island's Oenological Treasures
Our wine list pays special tribute to local producers and the native grape varieties that have made Ischia famous around the world:
- Biancolella: The island's signature white wine, featuring aromas of Mediterranean scrub, aromatic herbs, and citrus notes.
- Forastera: Fresh, mineral, and savory, an authentic expression of the island's volcanic soil.
- Pèr e' Palummo (Piedirosso): The native red wine with an elegant character, perfectly paired with our famous Ischian-style rabbit.
